Jim earned a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine from Marietta College and a Master in Physical Therapy from the University of Pittsburgh. His professional career brought him to Lexington in 1996, where he eventually became the supervisor of the University of Kentucky Sports Physical Therapy Department.
In 2002, he left the University of Kentucky to work for Drayer Physical Therapy Institute. During his eight years with Drayer, Jim served as Regional Vice President of Kentucky Operations and was responsible for developing the Kentucky region, where he opened five facilities and supervised over 70 employees. In May 2010, Jim left Drayer to open Orthopedic & Sports Physical Therapy.
